Introduction
The ongoing advancement and integration of modern digital learning technologies within educational frameworks represent an evolving landscape demanding further comprehensive exploration. The integration of these technologies into pedagogical settings has engendered transformative shifts in educational methodologies, pedagogy, and learning environments. Understanding the intricacies and implications of these technologies stands as a critical pursuit, warranting in-depth investigation. The contemporary educational sphere witnesses an unprecedented reliance on digital tools and platforms, necessitating scholarly attention to assess their efficacy, impact, and potential drawbacks. Research in this domain aims to elucidate the multifaceted dimensions of modern digital learning technologies, encompassing their role in fostering engagement, inclusivity, and knowledge dissemination.
The purpose of the study is to analyze modern digital learning technologies.
Research objectives:
to describe the essence of digital learning;
consider the features of digital learning technologies.
At different stages of the work, various research methods were used: specifically historical, chronological, problem-theoretical, systemic, comparative (synchronous and diachronic).
Structure of the work: the work consists of an introduction, the main part, a conclusion and a list of references.
1. Concept of digital learning
Digital learning encompasses the utilization of technology in educational settings. It integrates seamlessly into students' daily lives, manifesting through various mediums such as social media, multimedia, online games, and mobile devices. This approach involves engaging in educational activities facilitated by technology, predominantly leveraging the internet. Its manifestations range from blogs, videos, and real-time lectures to audio files .
At its core, digital learning necessitates the use of technology, including computers, laptops, or mobile phones. Often synonymous with distance learning, it caters to individuals studying remotely from traditional educational institutions like schools or universities. For instance, the Open University epitomizes distance learning, wherein technology plays a pivotal role in lesson delivery, falling under the purview of digital learning.
The term 'e-learning,' initially denoting online education, has now become an integral facet of digital learning, expanding to encompass broader educational aspects. In essence, digital learning broadly encompasses the utilization of devices and internet resources for educational purposes. This methodology allows students to dictate the pace of learning, choose their learning environment (as seen in distance education), and cherry-pick specific course elements or training modules .
Remarkably, digital learning presents notable advantages, notably enabling access to educational content without physical presence or the financial commitment of a complete course enrollment. It substantially reduces the necessity for physical travel, granting access to study materials irrespective of geographic location.
Given its reliance on computers, laptops, and mobile devices, digital learning significantly enhances data backup capabilities. Students can locally store files on their devices or leverage cloud-based storage solutions like Google Drive or The Cloud, ensuring accessibility across multiple devices from any location.
Learning digitally offers additional advantages. Utilizing word processing tools allows immediate identification and correction of spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors in essays or reports. This method also mitigates uncertainty arising from varying cursive styles, ensuring enhanced legibility .
Moreover, digital learning occasionally facilitates 24/7 access to course materials, aiding in retrieving forgotten information or reinforcing learning. Recorded lectures and seminars reduce reliance on note-taking, enabling easy playback for better comprehension. However, the principal drawback of digital learning lies in the digital divide. This refers to the gap between individuals with and without access to digital devices and the internet. For those lacking internet connectivity or digital tools, digital learning becomes inaccessible.
While CD-ROMs or hard drives may contain learning materials, remote access to files via internet connectivity is often required. Inadequate infrastructure in certain areas, especially rural locales, may limit internet options. Additionally, restrictions on cable installation in populated areas further exacerbate connectivity issues. Digital learning mandates access to digital devices, which isn't always feasible for some families. Limited access to shared devices or absence of computers, compounded by the luxury of internet expenses, restricts participation. Moreover, software necessary for word processing or data analysis can be costly, although efforts exist to provide these resources free of charge within web browsers.
Enrollment in digital learning courses necessitates a certain level of digital proficiency for successful completion. Individuals lacking prior computer or internet exposure may face challenges comprehending materials and actively participating in lessons, often involving video calls, emails, and file uploads.
Besides the mentioned digital devices, additional tools and resources play a crucial role, such as word processing software,
